Aucourant is proud to be the publisher of this recording of important archival and historical insterest of the music of well known American composer Roger Hannay. A senior member of the community of avant-garde composers, Hannay has been the recipient of numerous distinctions and awards. This disc includes Hannay’s Requiem (1961) for orchestra, chorus and soprano soloist, based on a text by Walt Whitman. This is an important work from a historical perspective and is one of only a handful of truly American requiems. Also included on the disc is his ground-breaking anti-Vietnam work Sayings of Our Time (1968) for chorus and orchestra. This disc will be of special interest to all scholars of American music of the second-half of the 20th Century.
