Sapphire (1999) — Robert Scott Thompson — Long-form Ambient Music

When music reaches your innermost soul even the silence between the notes leaves a poignant impression. Such is the way this masterful work from one of the leading lights of atmospheric ambient music affects me. Sapphire is indeed a treasure of simplicity and visionary minimalism.

Sapphire is a long-form ambient work based on piano (with treatments). It was apparently created in a single recording session. The flow is gentle, inspirational and sustained, and punctuated by short moments of silence. This is music that is perfect for contemplation or meditation, or simply playing in the background when concentration is needed elsewhere.
